HDTV? You What?

A new age is upon us. Not so long ago, we started receiving the first broadcasted images in out homes. As the TV set became increasingly common, everyone was satisfied with the fuzzy black-and-white pictures on their screens. Then most people rejected their old sets once color TVs came onto the market. An finally, in line with the introduction of other technologies, HDTV has stepped up to the plate. Gone are the days when you could be happy with washed-out colors and a low resolution. Now you want a clearer picture and sharper colors, and you want it all for an affordable price.

HDTV is the newest advance in television technology.Dont get suckered into keeping your old standard TV. The quality of the image with HDTV is instantly noticed and appreciated. Picture it this way, watching a standard TV is like viewing the world through a dirty windowpane. With HDTV, there is no window. The images on the television screen are as close to lifelike as you can get, that is, without actually getting off the couch and watching real-life images. An HDTV can accomplish this feat with its high resolution; a million pixels, often more, combine to create a brilliant picture that will wow any viewer.

But does it provide value for money? Fortunately, prices are falling every year. Five years ago, most people were priced out of the HDTV market.

But things are not always as straight forward as they seem. You are not quaranteed crystal clarity straight out of the box.Nop, you will need a few more accessories like a blue ray dvd player or satellite decoder. This sends the HD channels to your television; without one, you can only watch standard programming. Second, you will need high-def channels. Your cable or satellite provider offers a line-up of HD channels, though the number of available HD channels is nowhere close the number of available standard channels. Third, you will need an HD show or movie. Not all shows broadcast on an HD station are necessarily high-definition; news programs are often broadcast in standard-definition, as are most daytime programs. If you are watching a standard-def show, you may see a black bar on either side of the screen. Also, since you are watching a standard-def show on a high-def screen, the picture will not be nearly as clear or as sharp as with an HD program. Only when you have all three elements - an HD box, channel and show - can you experience television like never before.

VoIP is Less Taxing than Traditional Telephone Service

Filed under: Telecommunication Hall @ 8:33 am

When it comes to VoIP Broadband Telephone service, there are many benefits. Unlimited local and long distance calling, included features such as CallerID, Call Waiting, Find Me/Follow Me, etc., and reduced costs. Many people overlook one thing when they are comparing the price of a VoIP provider and their Traditional Telephone service, and that is “What taxes are associated with VoIP telephone service vs. what taxes are associated with traditional telephone services?”

In my opinion, this is a huge factor in making the decision to go with a VoIP Broadband Telephone solution. The only VoIP Tax (as of the writing Feb. 2005) associated with a VoIP service is a Federal Excise Tax of only 3% of the bill. For example, if you signed up for a VoIP unlimited calling plan for only $19.95 per month your monthly total would equal $20.55. This $20.55 per month would cover all of your calls to the U.S. and Canada, all of the included features, and quality customer service. (Noted exception: Vonage customers located in N.J. are required to pay sales tax on their Vonage VoIP service.)

Conversely, a Traditional telephone bill includes numerous taxes and surcharges. For example, I had a discount telephone company that only charged me $9.99 per month for a basic Traditional Telephone service in California. Please look at the breakdown of all of the taxes and charges.

BASIC MONTHY CHARGE $9.99

CALL WAITING $3.20

FCC ACCESS CHARGE $4.49

DIRECTORY LISTING/ NON-PUBLISHED $0.79

FEDERAL TAX $0.54

CA RELAT SVC AND COMM DEVICE FUND $0.04

E911 TAX $0.09

UNIVERSAL LIFELINE SERVICE CHARGE $0.16

CA HIGH COST FUND SURCHARGE A $0.02

STATE REGULATORY FEE $0.01

UNIVERAL SERVICE FUND $0.39

CA HIGH COST FUND SURCHARGE B $0.30

TOTAL TAXES, FEES AND SURCHARGES $10.03

So, my bill total was $20.02 for the month and that was before I ever picked up the telephone to make a telephone call. Also the only feature that I opted for was Call Waiting.

You can draw your own conclusions on whether or not VoIP is right for you. If you don’t make any outgoing calls then you may want to stick to your traditional telephone company. But from an economical stand point, VoIP is clearly the less expensive option if you make any long distance telephone calls.

Economics is only one part of the equation. Be sure to read my other article on “Things You Should Consider When Selecting a VoIP Provider” found at http://www.voipchoices.com/voip-considerations.html.

A Greek Tradition

Filed under: Adventurous Life, Online Travel Resources @ 6:05 am

Cyprus has been home to many cultures over the ages, but to most of us simply know it as a great hotspot, which has made it a very popular destination with tourists, with over 2.4 million visiting the republic. The island receives over 330 days of sunshine a year, which has given it the name The Island of the Sun. With plenty of travel agents providing Cyprus holidays and low cost airlines including Monarch offering routes to Paphos and Larnaca, there has never been a better time to visit.

Cyprus attracts tourists from all over the world, but the majority come from Europe. In recent years Russians and Poles have become poolside regulars alongside the French, Germans and, of course, us Brits.. The British Armed Forces have long has a presence in Cyprus. The UK retains a military base in order to have a gateway for forces to the Middle East. The impact of this on the surrounding area is that Cypriots have grown used to, and this has in turned resulted in areas that are less traditional and more contemporary in culture. English is widely spoke and understood among nearly all age groups to driving on the left side of the road. No doubt the similarity to the UK makes us Brits feel more at home, but in a more favourable climate.

For many reading this, the prospect of taking a holiday away from England only to be greeted at the airport by a hire car representative hailing from Croydon and being served an authentic Mediterranean dish of steak and chips will not appeal. However, this side of Cyprus, that continues to attract millions of tourists year after year, is only one aspect of the island and is concentrated around the tourist hotspots of Paphos, Larnaca and Ayia Napa. As soon as you leave the packaged paradise and clubbers haven of these areas and hit the road the real country reveals itself.

If your fancy cooling off, and seeing something different take a trip up to the Troodos Mountains. In the heart of the mountains you will find the Kykkos monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1998. Housing art and exhibits on ancient Greece, the monastery has the twin function of being a museum for visitors and a practising monastery lived in by worshiping monks. Kykkos even has its own winery where the monks bottle and sell their wine. A daytrip to the Troodos Mountains can be a welcome change from the beach and with overnight accommodation available in many of the authentic villages dotted about; you might want to spend a few days here sampling another side of Cyprus.

GPS Buying Tips For Technophobes

Filed under: Telecommunication Hall @ 11:08 pm

Black glasses with masking tape holding them together and a pocket protector are no longer a required part of the uniform for GPS owners. GPS has gone mainstream. But if you’re still not up to date on what it is and how it works, and if you’d like some advice on what to buy, this article will bring you up to speed.

A GPS device is like a map on steroids. First of all, it always gives you that little “You Are Here” dot - you no longer need to figure that out for yourself. And all you need to do is tell it where you want to go and it will plot the course for you. It doesn’t end there, however. New GPS units will provide you with voice guided directions for the entire trip, tell you where the nearest gas station is, and will even put you back on course if you take a wrong turn.

GPS stands for Global Positioning System, a system of 28 satellites orbiting earth. It was originally developed for military use, but its uses have spread far beyond just military applications. Your GPS unit can receive signals from these satellites, and by using these signals, calculates your position (within 3-10 meters), direction, altitude, and velocity. Once your GPS unit knows where you are, it can help you get to where you’re going as long as it has mapping software installed. All but the most basic GPS devices currently have mapping software.

Now that you know a little bit about what a GPS device is and how it works, it’s time to educate yourself on the features available and decide which unit will best suit your needs. There is certainly no shortage of GPS devices available, so doing a little research can save you a lot of time and hassle.

Step 1 - Which type of GPS do you need?

There are four main types of GPS units; the car navigation system, the portable outdoors unit, the marine system, and the PDA/GPS hybrid.

If you’re mainly planning on using your GPS to get you from point A to B in your car and don’t think you’d use it for much else, your best bet is the in-car navigation system. These systems can be built in to your car or you can purchase a device that mounts onto your dashboard. Desirable features for the in-car systems are: voice guided directions; detailed built in maps; touch screens; rerouting in case you get off course; and a database with points of interest to help you find the nearest gas station, restaurant, and many more places along your route.

If you’re going to want a GPS device that isn’t limited to the car, then you may want to consider a handheld GPS (http://www.gpsmaestro.com/handheld). These devices are ideal for anyone who loves to hike or bike. Features to look for in a handheld unit are: lightweight, rugged, waterproofing, long battery life, color screens, and mapping features. The handheld GPS units are geared towards people who spend a significant amount of time outside. For example, if you’re out hiking you can easily track where you’ve been; mark your own points of interest; and even find out how far you’ve gone and at what speed. Many new handheld devices offer some navigation features while driving. You can even purchase handheld units that offer built in radios that will not only allow you to communicate with other members of your party, but will also display everyone’s location on your screen.

If being on the water and fishing is your thing then you should probably consider a marine GPS. These units are specifically designed to be on and around water. All of these units will feature waterproofing and should have screens that are easy to read even in bright sunlight. Some other good features to look for are: color chart plotters, onshore and offshore maps, fish hotspots, and sonar capability. You may also want to consider a unit that will function as your car navigator, eliminating the need for two devices.

The final category of GPS device is the PDA/GPS hybrid. This device offers a good combination of the car navigation systems and handheld devices. You’ll get the large screen that you’d find in the car system and the portability of a handheld unit. Also, you get a PDA to help you keep organized. One drawback is the limited selection of these units. Only a few companies have attempted to make an integrated unit, and all have some serious limitations.

If you are considering a PDA/GPS hybrid, I’d recommend you purchase the PDA separately from the GPS. Find a PDA that offers all the features you want in your PDA, then look for a GPS receiver that will attach to your PDA via Bluetooth. The features to watch for are the same as listed for the in car systems. All of the current PDA/GPS devices are better suited towards driving than hiking, although they do offer the portability for outdoor activities if needed. This category probably offers the most potential of the four, but it is also the newest, so watch for significant improvements in this category in the future.

Step 2 - Budget Considerations

If you’re on a budget, then it’s important to decide which features are most important to you. If you want a full featured car navigation system, it can easily run over $1000 (and over $2000 if you want one that’s built in). If, however, it would be more of a toy to play with, then a handheld device could be a better choice as they can be as low as $100 and are rarely more than $500. Marine GPS devices vary widely in prices, but a very good device can usually be purchased for no more than $1000. If the PDA/GPS devices interest you, they typically range from $400-$900.

Step 3 - Where to Buy

Finding the right store to purchase your GPS device can be difficult. Most stores only carry one or two kinds of GPS. For example, if you go to a sporting goods store you’re likely to find the handheld GPS units and marine GPS units but not the car navigation or the PDA/GPS hybrids. I actually prefer shopping online for GPS units as the prices will likely be lower, and you’ll be able to read user reviews of the items before you buy. Just make sure that if you have a problem with your GPS you are able to return it.

Owning a GPS can be extremely helpful, especially if you tend to get lost a lot or if your glove compartment is overflowing with outdated maps. They can also make planning a long trip to an unfamiliar area a breeze. Deciding which GPS to purchase can be difficult, but as long as you make a list of the features you absolutely must have then all you have to do is find the units that match your budget. Read reviews from other owners and you should have no trouble at all. Once you purchase your own GPS unit, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without one.

2006 Trends in Satellite Technologies

Filed under: Universe Of Videos @ 10:54 pm

Satellite technology has come a long way since Arthur C. Clarke fantasized in his famous Science Fiction Novels of an Earth Communication Grid able to maintain communication with anyone anywhere on the planet. Today the next generation of Iridium type satellite systems is coming forth.

Today we receive as consumers Satellite Television, with some 600 channels and Satellite Radio with over 200 and those are from only two different companies. Today when we talk across the ocean we do so not by wire, but by satellite and it is as clear as a bell or you can even hear a pin drop. Many of us now have GPS systems in our automobile, which tell us where we are and provide us with an aerial view map.

For those who live in the sticks, well you can have all this technology and more without any form of wires to or from your home and you can even get high-speed broadband direct satellite internet and be hooked into the world from anywhere. In 2005 we saw new systems and antennas, which were less intrusive, small and compact, even capable of using six gyros for marine use, aircraft use or automobile use to stay connected with two-way high bandwidth while in full motion.

In 2006 we will see more robust satellite systems which will be the size of basketballs, micro-satellites which will be tethered together to form their own mini-solar system, while the tethers collect electromagnetic energy to perpetually power them and allow them the ability to stay in low Earth orbit or move around. Think on this and see it in 2006.

Who Needs God?

Filed under: Real Estate Tips @ 5:15 pm

This article was written to help everyone discover the restless desire they have, even if they don’t know that it is for their God. Please publish it liberally to spread the good news. Number of words in article body: 709.

You say that your getting along fine by yourself and you don’t need God. You are making a good living; you have a nice family and lots of friends. You are a leader and a go-getter and recognized as a pillar in your community. You don’t need to be bothered with going to church and all the restrictions placed on Christians.

You think that the book called the Bible is nothing but a fairy tale. You believe that science has proved most of the Bible false anyway.

Who needs God? Everybody needs him, including you. You may do well financially and socially but that’s not all there is to life. Everyone has a physical part and a spiritual part. There is a desire within everyone to relate to their spiritual side, even if they are unaware of it. Those who have an endless desire for pleasure, wealth, or power are searching for something to fill the empty place inside them. They don’t realize that they are really searching for God.

Ever since the beginning of time mankind has worshiped a higher being. Some people worship the stars, and other celestial things. Some worship God. In reality whatever you hold the most high in your heart is your god.

You say that you don’t need God. In that case you have become your own god. Everyone worships something. It may be money, pleasure, sex, or something else, but these things are actually substitutes for God. They will be restless and unsatisfied until they discover their God.

Christianity is not a bunch of rules; it’s a way of life. Everything God wants us to do is for our own good and happiness.

It is continually being proved that Scripture is true. The paths of the sea were discovered because a seaman found a passage in the Bible about them. The walls of Jericho have been found. They fell outward from the inside. The Bible says they fell down. They were not pushed down. This proves the story is true. The Bible is geographically correct. When the text indicated they went down to a certain location, they went down a hill. If it is said, they went up it means they went uphill. Hundreds of things that happened in the New Testament were foretold in the Old Testament, some, thousands of years before they happened. This proves that a higher intelligence inspired what is in the Bible.

Things may be going well with you now. What happens when your health fails? What if you lose your job or your business goes under? Everyone has times when they realize they don’t have an answer for their situation. You desperately need someone bigger than you that you can lean on. The Lord has all knowledge and never makes a mistake. He has promised to make things turn out for the good of those that love and obey him.

It is not in man to direct his own steps (JER10: 23 ). Our creator gave us intelligence and many abilities and we also received a soul that is not complete without help from above. You may ignore your spiritual side but you will never satisfy the restless feeling within you. In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps (PR 16:9). You are mistaken if you think you are running your own life. You can’t even think about your next move without direction from above. The Lord knows what you are going to think before you think it.

You may be going your own way and accumulating many things. One day you are going to face the grim reaper. What good are physical treasures then? Even if you go into eternity without the Lord’s blessing, do you want your children to follow you to suffer forever? The Bible says that the Lord will punish everyone with everlasting destruction who does not obey the gospel of the Lord (2TH 1:8-9).

Since the Lord is already directing your steps, why not cooperate with him? Confess the name of Jesus and be baptized in his name. Let him make everything happen for the best. Convince your spouse and children to follow you so that you can all be together in heaven.

The writer of this article is also the author of the book, “Climbing the Heavenly Stairs.” Discover the reason for your restlessness. Get acquainted with the members of the Godhead. Be sure of the feeling of your faith. Go on to become spiritually mature. Set priorities to assure the Lord will approve you. The Benefits of Shopping Carts on a Website

Filed under: Real Estate Tips @ 6:09 pm

Take a walk through any town high street and one thing you are sure to notice are the shops. You may also notice that they are not as busy as they once were. One of the main reasons for this is of course the Internet.

Online buying

Today, just about anything you want can be purchased online. From clothes to cars or holidays to houses, it’s all there. The Internet not only lets us shop on a worldwide level, we can also continue to buy from our more familiar and favourite major high street stores because almost all of them have a web presence as well as their traditional outlets.

As online shopping now accounts for over half of all retail sales in the UK and the trend continues to grow at a rapid pace, businesses of all sizes have been extremely quick to make the buying process as simple and straightforward as possible by integrating intelligent ecommerce systems into their websites.

Ecommerce benefits

These programmes, sometimes referred to as ’shopping carts,’ guide customers step by step through the online buying process, from displaying merchandise options such as quantities, colours and sizes etc, to taking payments via credit card on a safe secure server. Even Internet novices are beginning to shop in this way due to the simplicity of operation of most ecommerce systems.

One of the most important benefits ecommerce has to offer customers is that of complete freedom to shop at any time of the day or night for almost anything we need. It is a benefit that is having an enormous effect on our buying habits, not least because we no longer have to worry about opening hours.

Flexibility

Ecommerce systems do not sleep; they need no food and are available to customers 24hrs a day 365 days a year.
It is like having a salesperson working full-time without having to pay them a wage. Business website owners can even earn money when they are asleep.

If your business involves the selling of any type of merchandise via a website, having an ecommerce facility could hugely benefit both your company and your customers. To get your website working to its maximum potential, a chat with your web designer about what ecommerce programmes can do for you may be one of the best business decisions you ever make.

Dealing With Grief and Loss - How to Mend a Broken Heart

Filed under: Real Estate Tips @ 3:55 am

What is it about Grief & Loss that upsets us so much? Is it the heavy duty emoting that we have to do to get through our suffering? Is it the fear we have about opening ourselves to all this pain? Because, let’s face it, it’s hard down there, in the land of grieving where all those emotions toss us around like a cork on a stormy sea.

We understand that this is necessary, at a surface level, but how we are feeling is what really counts. In that place we call Grief & Loss, is where pain dominates our life and where suffering is the paramount teacher. This is really difficult, and we know it only too well at times like these. We go there because we have to, but we try hard to escape, as soon as possible.

What is necessary now to get through to the end of this process? Is it simply a matter of toughing it out, or, do we have to dredge and dig and pummel ourselves along the way? It’s hard to be sure what we must do at such times.

All those Gurus that say “do it this way or that way,” are they capable of handling it themselves? As a survivor, going through grief, I would want to know that, wouldn’t you? The essence of false advertising is “never having been there yourself,” is it not? Absolutely, this we all know without a doubt.

So what do we require then to move through this landscape called Grief & Loss? We seem to know this at some level, don’t we? We seem to know that deep down where our sorrows dwell, there is an inescapable reality. We have to feel this. Oh yes, it’s an ugly fact, but true nevertheless. We have to feel this pain in order to exorcise it from our bodies. Yes, we have to feel it, so we can learn that this too is survivable. Isn’t that the most important thing in all such activities - to know where you are at in your own heart when you finally get to the truth?

This truth I talk about is your truth, that feeling in your gut when you know you are right. Since this is your truth, then only You can determine its validity for yourself. No guru can ever take you there. Because deep down, this is your “house,” your well-spring of creative experience. What happens here defines your life, tells you who you are and, right now, what you have to suffer at times of grief and loss.

To some that may seem sad though, to arrive in this “feeling” place where grief has brought you. But is it really? Perhaps it’s a better thing than you imagined, this place where truth resides within. Perhaps it’s more than you ever bargained for. Sure, grief brought you here, but what else goes on in this place of tender emotion? How about looking around, since you’re already here?

These are your life lessons after all, to have and to hold, until your truths can be borne. How could you ever have a guru do that for you? No such luck! You have to do it yourself. But what a fantastic opportunity to get to know yourself better, to live deep inside your own heart and soul while this grieving process goes on around you.

Let me assure you that you will survive. You will overcome these tragic effects. Because there is truth in there where you live. And that truth will take you somewhere important - for you! This is Your Truth, remember, and only you can assess, experience and benefit from the effects it will have upon you.

So do it! Allow yourself to descend to where it hurts and find out for yourself what this experience of grief and loss is, and what it can teach you that might correct your misperceptions about Life, Love & Purpose. Yes, you have access to the truth, just as I do, just as we all do. As these lessons arrive, they are yours for the taking. We all get them. Grief and Loss are but one more avenue to help us get to our very own Truth. Yes, the suffering will eventually pass, but the Truth - well, that’s forever!

Understand This: Professional Citezens Debt Advice is Very Rarely Totally Free

Filed under: Finance Programs @ 4:46 pm

Today there are record numbers of debt advice businesses in heated competition to provide free debt advice. Almost all companies will offer completely free no strings debt advice. For would be clients one of the problems is trying to understand whether or not such organisations are giving best value in terms of the information they give and the services they offer.

Debt advice businesses are overseen by government bodies to ensure they are professionally qualified and respect individual non disclosure agreements. The weaknesses with this is that it is not possible to monitor or prove an advisers rational when providing debt advice. The question is, how is it possible for the government find out whether or not debt advice was given in the best interests of the debtor or if, perhaps, recommendations made were skewed by the advisers own profit?

The fact of the matter is financial companies are trying to return profit, it is possible that this will result in ethical problems between the individual seeking debt advice and the debt company. Profits are generated by referring debtors to other companies or alternatively by collecting setup costs from credit companies. Because of this it is not easy to audit how efficiently such businesses are actually helping their clients. The major worry is that these debt counselling organisations will tend to make recommendations skewed by their own margins rather than what is best for their clients.

Identifying citezens advice which is honest can be a stressful process. However, shopping around for the best service is essential for such services. Customers should never go with the first debt adviser that offers them help.

The truth is by far the majority of clients fail to properly grasp their rights in terms of debt management services in general. If customers did understand these consumers would not need guidance from debt counsellors.

Six Golden Rules Of Pay Per Click Marketing Campaign

Filed under: Real Estate Tips @ 11:59 am

What are pay per click engines?

Pay per click engines as the name suggests, webmasters have to pay a fee for each click coming from search engine results. Depending on how much the person bids for a keyword over his competitor his website will be positioned in the search engine results.

How pay per click search engines work?

For example if a webmaster bids $0.07 on the term ‘tennis shoes’. If no other webmaster bids more than this, he will stay in 1st position. If second webmaster bids $0.08, then second one goes to 1st position. Basically this is like auction procedure for No.1 position.

So what are SIX Golden tips to work with Pay per click search engines?

RULE No. 1: Keywords:

Select your keywords carefully so that every keyword reflects your product. General keywords bring general public.

For example if you are offering search engine optimization service to webmasters, ’search engine’ will be a general keyword for you. ’search engine optimization’ , ‘good search engine ranking’ etc,. will be your good target keywords.

Another thing you have to remember is targeting your keywords. Like any geographical locaton specific to your product or any specific language…Some search engines like Google offer this feature to target the keywords based on the countries and language.

RULE No. 2: Write a compelling ad:

Most of the times the pay per click search engine services limits your ad characters and length. So try to keep the keyword in the ad headline and the body.

By doing so, you will get higher click thrus for tha ads. This will be very useful with Google, which determines your position not only by your bidding amount but also click thru ratio. Google editors won’t allow you to use keyword more than once in your ad. It is to make use of your ad space more efficiently.

See the example below-

“Ebay ebook: Every thing about How to make money on ebay! An Easy to follow Guide!!”

“Ebay ebook that Stands in numder ONE position in Clickbank Market place as a Top Seller. See the Proof!”

Certainly anybody can say that the second one pulls traffic than the first ad.

Try different ones and see what pulls more traffic for you. Check your spelling and grammer twice before submitting your ads.

RULE No. 3: Don’t enter in to Bidding war:

Keep an eye on your Return on Investment. (ROI) It is not that easy to resist the temptation of being number one on pay per click engine listings especially for the beginners. Always decide an amount how much you are going to spend on advertising campaigns. Depending on that devide certain percentage to PPCs.

With reasonable bidding amount you can get good amount of traffic from PPCs.

RULE No. 4: Monitor your bidding amount:

Most of the people bid once and don’t remember about it for weeks. Monitor your bid amount after logging in to your accounts. Do this atleast once in every 4-7 days.

For example, If you go to overture.com and search for some of the the keywords, you can find the first positions paying $0.87, $0.85, 0.35 for the first three rankings. Don’t you see who will be benefited by this? You can get the first and second position for $0.37 and $0.36 respectively.

So always keep an eye on your bidding amount.

RULE No. 5: Landing page:

After clicking on your link and coming to your website, don’t let them search for the product for which they came to your site. Directly landing on the product page is always a good idea and saves lot of your visitor’s time.

RULE No.6: Track your results:

Put some source code at the end of URL. Or submit different landing page for your product. So people coming to that URL can be tracked through a good weblogger. More on tracking your ad campaigns is at: http://www.webmasters-central.com/wprofits/tracking.shtml
