Curing My Hair Loss

Hair loss is hereditary in my family but I never knew that it would hit me at such an early age. I was astounded to notice that my hairline was receding shortly before my thirtieth birthday. I could not believe I was losing my hair. I even started balding on the rear of my head.

Baldness has affected me, I felt that age has finally caught up with me. I felt like the best years of my life were behind me. I even ceased seeing women. My love life was non-existent. There was one girl I had been seeing nonchalantly and even though I liked her, I just stopped returning her phone calls. I realised that I hadn’t found the woman of my dreams with a full head of hair so there was no way I was going to find somebody with my growing bald spot. I was too discouraged to even try having a loving relationship.

Hair loss changed me in to a dismayed loner, I was always a confident and socialable guy. I was persistent to get the problem fixed and begun searching for a remedy. I tried lots of hair loss treatments that are available over the counter. Nothing that I bought from the pharmacy worked and believe me, I tried them all. After that, I just stopped trying for a while. It was a real low point in my life. I even stopped going out with my friends, I was so depressed.

Fortuitously, one night a friend dragged me out of the house for a few beverages. Throughout the night, he noticed was I seemed a little down. It took him a little while to figure out why. He told me about the hair loss studio in the city. My friend had gone there for hair loss treatments and had been impressed with the results. I was even more impressed. He had no sign of hair loss, he had a full head of hair. He made me promise to give them a shot and I agreed.

I could not have been happier with the hair loss studio recommended to me. Only after a few treatments, I had a full head of hair again. The hair loss studio not only helped me regained my hair but also my self-assurance.

10 Easy Tips to Enjoy Super Bowl Sunday (Even If You Are a Girl)

Filed under: Gender Issues Information @ 8:29 pm

What’s a girl to do? Super Bowl Sunday has to be the most
masculine day of the entire year. Julie Hunt, female
extraordinaire, offers 10 totally awesome ideas to women
planning and enjoying their Sunday, Feb. 6th Super Bowl Soiree.

Because unless you want to plan an “Anti Super Bowl Party” where
you can escape for a few hours, let the guys do their thing and
paint the town red… the reality is most of us girls will end up
at a Super Bowl Party (and you may even be the hostess of one).

And that means hanging out with excitable boys who can’t be
interrupted or ripped from the TV, eating almost as much food as
we do on Thanksgiving Day and grinning and bearing the football
nonsense to get through it all. Thank goodness we’ve got Bono
this year as our halftime hunny!

Why fight it? Might as well brighten up the day with a little
feminine energy and make it a day for everyone, not just the
boys.

So, here are the top 10 ways to enjoy a Simply Superb Super Bowl
Sunday.

1. Pre-game Role Reversal. Encourage the guys to perform a
pre-game cheer and let the girls huddle up to devise a play and
act it out. Make it an annual Super Bowl ritual and elaborate on
it every year.

2. Battle of the Sexes. Start a football pool for the girls.
Have each woman take exactly the opposite position of one of the
guys. And at the end of the day see who really knows more about
football.

3. MVP Awards. Keep a look out for the MVP party goers. Keep
secret voting ballots for the girls to pick: Worst Joke Worst
Behavior Best Behaved Heisman Trophy Snack Winner Fewest Party
Fouls Worst Party Fumble

4. Open Up the NFL Shop. Get the girls together before hand and
add a little football fun to your wardrobe. Make ‘NFL Champion’
baby doll tees with nick names or code names. Buy flashy Super
Bowl rings as party favors.

5. Beer Blitz. Have the kids on clean up patrol all day long.
Give them trash bags and let them know that every empty can they
collect is money in their pocket. You’ll take them down to the
‘Recycle Center’ and turn the cans into cold hard cash. You
might even match the money and then take them to a special spot
so they can spend it!

6. Toilet Penalties and Seat Fouls. Every time the boys leave
the seat up, girls get a 2 minute reprieve from the football
talk. Feel free to bring up any non Super Bowl related topic for
two whole minutes without being shushed!

7. Football Fun Trivia. Have a competition between the women and
the kids at the party and see who is up on their football
trivia. Send an email to julie@shesite.com with the subject line
“Super Bowl Trivia” for a silly Super Bowl Trivia link that
everyone (including women and kids) can play. When you get it,
you can print the email, make copies and pass them out at
halftime. Then when half time is over, rip it up and use it for
confetti!

8. Ice Cube Interception. Feel playful, flirtatious and let your
guy know it. Toss a cube his way with a wink and a wave instead
of shooting him long disapproving stares that could create
conflict later.

9. Get In The Game. Learn a few buzz words, game principles or
plays so you can get in to it. Get the quick tips Girl’s Guide
to Super Bowl Sunday at www.shesite.com with 10 of our favorite
football phrases and 3 quick-witted questions so you can shoot
the breeze and sound like a pro.

10. Footsie Fumble. Just in case the testosterone gets too
thick. Have pedicure spa goodies on stand by and ask the girls
to bring toe nail decals to trade and swap for a fun pedicure
moment in the 4th quarter. WARNING: For party peace, this tip
should only be used in case of an emergency. Retreat off to the
side (or even another room completely) and never start it before
halftime.

And if that doesn’t get you excited, maybe you should plan an
“Anti Super Bowl Party” after all. Forget the 10 tips and skip
straight to the age old and totally reliable ‘Anti Super Bowl
Standby.’

Go shopping!

If you can get away with the girls, do it! Enjoy the ghost town
you live in at its best!

You’ll find that most places, activities and attractions are
completely devoid of male human presence!

Try something new, go somewhere different or see something
you’ve been hoping to for a long time. Plan a Super Bowl fun
shopping day, lunch or visit to a museum.

year, take a peek at www.shesite.com. And, enjoy the game!

Prostate Health through Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

Filed under: Gender Issues Information @ 10:23 am

From birth to young adulthood, the prostate grows from about the size of a pea to about the size of a walnut. Most men experience a second period of prostate growth in their mid- to late 40s. At this time, cells in the central portion of the gland - where the prostate surrounds the urethra - begin to reproduce more rapidly. As tissues in the area enlarge, they often compress the urethra and partially block urine flow. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the medical term for this condition. It should be noted that the prostate may also become enlarged due to bacterial infection, the term used for this condition is acute or chronic bacterial prostatitis. There is also another non-bacterial form of chronic prostatitis which is actually more common than its counterpart, the cause for it is unknown.

Prostate enlargement affects about half of men in their 60s and up to 90 percent of men in their 70s and 80s. The presence or absence of prostate gland enlargement is not related to the development of prostate cancer.

Conventional treatment depends on your signs and symptoms and may include medications, surgery or non-surgical therapies such as acupuncture, herbs, and nutritional supplements.

Signs & Symptoms
Prostate enlargement varies in severity from man to man, and doesn’t always pose a problem. Only about half the men with prostate enlargement experience signs and symptoms that become noticeable or bothersome enough for them to seek medical treatment. These signs and symptoms may include:

*Weak urine stream
*Difficulty starting urination
*Stopping and starting again while urinating
*Dribbling at the end of urination
*Frequent need to urinate
*Increased frequency of urination at night (nocturia)
*Urgent need to urinate
*Not being able to completely empty the bladder
*Blood in the urine (hematuria)
*Urinary tract infection
*Pain in the lower abdomen
*Discomfort during ejaculation
*Fever and chills (infection)

Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine generally sees the condition of prostate enlargement as an accumulation of Dampness and Heat in the lower portion of the torso (low Jiao), or as cold that has entered the Liver channel, quite often accompanied by a Kidney deficiency as an underlying root. This condition gives rise to all the troubling urinary symptoms listed above. Acupuncture, moxibustion, and laser acupuncture displays good results in helping restore normal urinary function (Luo YN et al. World Journal of Acupuncture-Moxibustion), and Chinese herbal therapy has been shown to eliminate the root causes of prostate enlargement. Together, Chinese herbal medicine and Acupuncture are an important choice in overcoming the battle with prostate enlargement. In one study, electro-acupuncture was also shown to help chronic prostatitis cases that were unresponsive to conventional therapies (Ikeuchi T, Iguchi H).

Treatments with acupuncture (traditional, electro, laser) and moxibustion (heat therapy) are usually once per week unless there is considerable pain 2-3 treatments per week for 1-3 weeks may be warranted. Chinese herbal therapy will be administered in the form of daily tea, pills, powders, or drops. Some nutritional supplements and western herbal therapy may also be recommended. Diet will also be reviewed from a traditional energetic point of view to help eliminate anything that may be aggravating the prostate condition.

Chronic non-bacterial prostatitis
The most recent scientific research claims that chronic non-bacterial prostatitis has unknown etiology (the cause is not known). This is an unfortunate situation considering it is more common that it’s infectious counterparts, acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis.

Symptoms include pain and discomfort in the pelvic region or CPPS (chronic pelvic pain syndrome), some low back pain, frequent urination, and an unfinished feeling after urination. There is usually no history of urinary tract infections (as in bacterial prostatitis), no redness, and patients do not obtain symptomatic relief with antibiotics.

There also seems to be more of a feeling of ‘cold’ (rather than ‘heat’ which would be associated with the infectious bacterial prostatitis). It should also be noted that emotional problems such as depression and erectile dysfunction more often than not accompany this chronic condition and should be properly diagnosed and treated.

Treatment Studies and Research
Some men say they find relief with NSAID’s (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), although this is an avenue that cannot be undertaken forever as they suppress the immune system.

The Merck manual is quoted saying that hot sitz baths and prostate massage are two of the best ways to provide symptomatic relief.

A recent study showed the benefits of alternative therapies including phytotherapy (quercetin, bee pollen) and physical therapies such as acupuncture (Shoskes and Manickam, dept. or Urology Cleveland Clinic Florida). The relief from acupuncture displayed that there is a neuromuscular component to chronic prostatitis. This is further proven in another study done by Chen and Nickel at the King Street Medical Arts Centre in Mississauga Ontario Canada where acupuncture successfully ameliorated symptoms in men with chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome.

Another study performed by Chen, Gao, Liu, and Shen at Zhejiang College Hangzhou showed promise with the use of laser acupuncture.

Other herbal supplementation has received scientific recognition as of late; pygeum for urinary symptoms, saw palmetto and quercetin for pain, and beta-sitosterol to aid with urinary flow.

Moxibustion, a form of heat therapy used with acupuncture has also shown improvement in patients that participated in a study at Fushun Municipal Hospital, and another showed significant improvement at Nanjing Medical University when a combination of antibiotics and acupuncture were used in the treatment of CPPS and chronic prostatitis.

Years of empirical evidence also gives hope to those that seek out the aid of a qualified Chinese herbal medicine practitioner.

Spence Pentland of Vancouver BC Canada received his five year Doctor of TCM education from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Vancouver. To complete his studies he spent 500 hours at Anhui Hospital of TCM Hefei City, in the Peoples Republic of China. He is a licensed and registered member of the Canadian Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, is the President of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of British Columbia (TCMABC http://www.tcmabc.org/), and practices at Acubalance Wellness Centre (http://www.acubalance.ca/)where he treats only Men’s reproductive health (http://mens.health-info.org/)and Women’s fertility issues.

Travel Safety - How to Take a Fearless Ride by Bus, Train or Taxi

Filed under: Gender Issues Information @ 2:23 pm

Follow these travel safety tips to help you feel more confident
the next time you use ground transportation on a bus, train,
subway or taxi. They should be practiced daily if you use public
transportation to and from work or when traveling in unfamiliar
towns and cities when on vacation.

On the Bus… Use a bus stop you know is usually busy and
is well lit. Know the departure and arrival times and
try and let someone at the end of your route which bus you plan
to catch. They should always meet you at your stop. Sit
close to the driver. If someone starts up a conversation, be
pleasant and confident, but never give away personal information
like where you live or work.

By Train or Subway… Wait on a well- lit section of the
platform, close to the exit or where there are other people
around. Many stations now have security cameras and staff who
are trained to deal with emergencies. When you get on
the train, try to sit in a busy compartment and keep bags and
personal possessions right next to you or under your legs.
 If you feel uncomfortable, switch seats or even
consider getting off the train and taking the next one. Only do
this if the station where you are getting off is manned and
busy. Know where the emergency button or cord is
situated and the help points in a station.

Taking a Taxi… Carry the phone number of a taxi or
shuttle company you know. When you need to book a cab, ask the
company for the taxi drivers name and the type of car they will
be driving. Try and book the taxi you will need to go
home with, before you go out on the town. When a driver arrives,
make sure they know the name it was booked under. If you have to
book your taxi in a public place, do it quietly where people are
less likely to overhear your name and address. If you
can, share a taxi with a friend (always remember, safety in
numbers) and have your money and keys ready at the end of your
trip so you can enter your home quickly. If you ever
feel uneasy in a taxi ask the driver to stop in a busy place you
know well and get out.

And remember these Diva Defense tips wherever you go…
Never flash money when in public or traveling.

Ladies…keep your rings turned in with the stones on
the inside of your hand. Turn them back around when you get to
work, home or your destination. If at all, keep jewelry home
when you travel.

Always…always…always walk with confidence and look
like you know where you’re going - even when you’re lost. If a
stranger asks to help you, tell them “No thanks, I’m just fine.”
If you need directions, go into a convenience store or busy
shopping area where you can ask someone there to help you.

Being aware of your travel safety right along with your travel
plans gives you piece-of-mind during your trip. Whether you’re
en route back home from work or enjoying a relaxing vacation
getaway, don’t relax in your personal safety and give a criminal
any chance to make you their next target.
